Cape Ann from Manchester

May 17 2009 10:00 am

Leader: Gordon Harris gordonharris2@yahoo.com (978) 979-6598
Start: Memorial Elementary School, Manchester, MA map to start

Date and Time: Sunday, May 17, 2009: 10:00 am for 15, 25, 39 and 51 miles.

What to expect: We ride counter-clockwise along the Cape Ann coastline, through Gloucester, out to the Eastern Point Lighthouse, along Atlantic Ave., out to Rockport, back through Annisquam Village, and with an optional ride along the narrow winding roads in "West Gloucester" to Essex, then returning to Manchester. It's a great time to ride out to Rockport, before the roads get clogged with tourists. Road mark is a yellow "Dan Henry" shown below

This is a scenic tour with frequent turns, and is not designed for paceline riding!. Review the route before arriving for the ride. The route is marked with a yellow "Dan Henry", a circle with a line pointing the direction, as shown on this page. Note that this ride also has a summer start from Ipswich, so the Short/Med/Long indications on the road may not always be correct. If you are riding in a pack, make sure that the leader knows the route.. Please review the section of the route in Magnolia, where riders frequently get lost, despite being given maps, cue sheets, "Map My Ride" and extensive arrowing. If despite all of our efforts you do get lost or miss a turn, just enjoy the ride-- you'll make it back.
