Club Insurance Information

The NSC is a member of the League of American Bicyclists (LAB#2037511) and purchases insurance annually through the LAB partnership with the American Specialty Insurance Company.

The club purchases two types of insurance:
  • General liability insurance is purchased annually. Cost to the club is based on the number of members. In recent years, we pay about $350 based on an expected membership of 250. This is ‘on top’ of our club LAB membership, which must be paid to qualify us to buy the insurance.

  • “Special Events” insurance is purchased for our Blazing Saddles Century. Special Events are defined as events that are open to the public and an admission fee or entry cost is charged. The Special Event insurance premium is based on the actual number of participants in the event, with the premium due two weeks after the date of the event.

With one exception, no competitive event is covered by the policy and no extensions for competitive events are available. The only exception is a Time Trial for which no entry fee is charged, and only NSC members and invited guests are allowed to participate. This type of Time Trial is covered.

Other appropriate parties may be included in the scope of our coverage with the prior approval of the Administrator. As an example, this might include the owner of the land we start a ride from. We must apply to the Administrator in advance for this approval so the requirement for this should be identified as early as possible.

Insurance claims - If there’s any kind of crash or incident on an NSC ride that might result in an insurance claim, please contact an NSC Board Member. An insurance claim must be filed by an officer, after the ride leader completes an incident report.
