Ipswich to Boston

Start: Ipswich , downtown central parking lot on Hammatt St. behind Market Street and Central Street map to start
Directions: From I-95, take Rt. 133 east to the center of Ipswich. Turn right one block before downtown center. Hammatt St. parking lot will be on your left. From Rt. 1, take Ipswich Rd. from Topsfield. Cross tracks and turn left at the Ipswich Cooperative Bank, and bear right. Parking lot will be on your right.

Note: This ride will occur only if there is sufficient interest, and does not replace the regular NSC Sunday ride, the Salt Marsh Tour, which will be starting from the same location at the same time. Please let Gordon know in advance if you plan to join
What to expect: Quiet local roads from Ipswich take us to Topsfield, North Reading, Wakefield and Stoneham. We then ride along the Mystic River to Arlington, take the Minuteman Bike Path to Cambridge, and follow the Fresh Pond bike path and local bike lanes to the Charles River. Memorial Drive in Cambridge is closed on Sundays through early November from Mount Auburn to Western Ave. We cross the Charles River at Western Ave and join the Dudley Bike Path along Storrow Drive on the Boston side of the river, continuing the entire distance to the Science Museum Bridge. North Station is only a couple of blocks away, and we catch the 1:30 or 4:30 pm train back to Ipswich, which takes 50 minutes.
This is an un-arrowed small group ride. Participants should be able to maintain a moderate 14 mph pace for a day's ride. Download cue sheets and an overview map from the links below. Please study the route from the link at RideWithGPS so that you fully understand the route in case you get separated from the group. You may also download GPX files for the Garmin Edge cycling computer from that site. Note that since bike paths are not in the Garmin data base, you may need to rely more on the cue sheets after joining the Minuteman Trail.
