Early NSC Photos from Ken and Linda Simpson
Remember the early 80's? Ronald Reagan was in his first term, hair was big, and the music mostly sucked. Ken and Linda Simpson were prominent members of the North Shore Cyclists, and were taking pictures. Real analog pictures, not digital images. There was no such thing as digital imaging back then, at least for regular folk.
Some of these pictures found their way to me through Emmet Halpin, and I'm scanning them and posting them here:

I have a film scanner now, and a digital camera or two myself, and I had forgotten how painfull it is to scan prints on a flatbed. I don't think I can go any faster than 1 per night and achieve a quality level acceptable to me, so this is gonna take a few weeks. Keep checking back.
I go all the way back to the beginning, but since 1983 I believe I've met, without exageration, a couple of thousand people. Some of the faces in these photos are familiar but the names escape, so please forgive me if I knew you well in the day and you are identified with a ? in a picture. Please leave a comment on the photo or contact me personally if you can ID anybody I cannot.

Somebody mentioned there was another well-known figure who was our friend that era: Osama bin Laden, who was organizing fighters into a group he named "The List" to terrorize Soviet troops in Afghanistan. May he die a slow, painful, unmartyr-like death in a cave somewhere.
I've captioned the photos, pointing out things, people, and practices of the time that differ from today, and some that are still the same. I hope people open the pictures, read the captions, and then go out and ride with the club. As you ride, I hope you feel proud to be participating in traditions that go so far back to that other world.
